2nd Fishing Trip

hari ni 7Feb'12,

second time pergi memancing dengan bendul dekat tasik,

memula kami pergi tasik dekat kulim, casting punya casting..

langsung tak dak bite.

sembang sembang dengan pakcik local yang mai lalu situ,

dia kata situ toman dok main.

ceritanya ada lah orang dok mai mancing,

bawak naik sepanjang setengah depa..

ok ok pakcik, kami paham

tapi katanya mancing toman kat situ kena pakai umpan idup.

humm nanti bila dah level 12 nanti kita gi toman jom!

ohh..

lepaih tu kami pi tasik kat serdang kedah.

ada dua tasik, kami amik belah kiri.

pun gagal gak.. kumpao.

herannya nampak ikan dok menangkap.

tp tak dak patuk umpan pun..

ohh!! topi n spek mata polarizer memang perlu utk mancing.

bila matahari menyinari water surface, memang lah silaunya

nak tengok gewang

hey hey!! my second batch of spawning turned out interesting,

first of all i got one beautiful halfmoom salamander,

(If u can call it a salamander)

but the tail was bitten off..

so sayang.

then.. got one a lot of female rather then males..

why haa?

anyway...

this picture was one of the siblings..

why is the fin like dat?

is this fish sick?

am going to spawn this with a white female i have.

sure hope it wont die off during the intercourse :D

according to some of the sifus in Malaysian Aquarium Community Forum,

this fish is not sice, the marble genetics is kicking in.

now tell me, for a non experienced people like me,

how would i know.

anyway, this is the newest photo of the poor 'daddy'

am trying to spawn it now.

Artemia Log

am going to make a log about this artemia i'm cooking for the babies.

lets start by the mixture

110122 0030 am :

Mixed 2 spoon full of cooking salt in 1.5liter of water.

am using a plastic candy jar with those red top as the container.

Pour in half a spoon of artemia eggs i got from chaileng park.

let the air pumping inside. Supposedly by 1800 (Same date),

the artemia should swimming happily already.

110122 1800 :

Came back home and shut the air pump down,

let the water current settle down with light from a torchlight

shining tru from the side, With this method, the artemia

should come gathering at the light source.

Nope!! its not!! caust most of them havent hatched.

Hoh!!

110122 2100 :

and so i checked again, this time it hatched.

hundreds of artemia born and swimming all over the light source.

Siphon it out onto a piece of cloth to take only the artemia.

Let some clean water runs through to clean it up a bit and let it

swim in fresh water (This is to remove the salt as much as u can)

Use a straw or a pipette to take the artemia out of the new fresh

water and feed them to our 'MuayThai-Fighter' :)

Betta Breeding Journal 01 + 02

Pipet note:

this time i'm trying to breed my so called super red veil tail

(A cheap one actually)

with a common female ,black blue and a bit of red in the edge

of the dorsal fin. lets call them the Red Couple.

and also i got itchy to let another couple giving a try.

a cheap turquoise male short tail plakat with its own siblings

a somewhat turquoise with red stripe.

Lets call them the turquoise Couple.

110110 Red Female exposed (In the cage doing its pole dancing all day)

110111 Still exposing the Red Female

110112 Turquoise Female Exposed

110113 Both Female released to mate.

110114 i did checked, i tot nothing happened. No eggs was released.

110115 checked, nothing out of the ordinary.

my brother told me they will mate if the light is out.

so i took the lights out.

110116 came back by 1800, tiny tails coming out of the nest!! waah!!

both male is now busy collecting the young fry dat fall.

suspected the fry hatched on the 15th evening

110117 Gave them some artemia dat i've prepared earlier.

Took out both male. and fed them the same artemia,

this was found out later to be a mistake.

2 days old fry still needs the father.

2 days old fry dont eat artemia.

110118 went to thailand for some work matter...

was thinking if i could actually took some time to go to a betta farm

there, it would be heaven for me.

110119 landed in malaysia and checked the fry at 2300.

they're now swimming a lot more.

Vacuum the tank floor.

replaced with new fresh water from my other planted tank.

Red tank was kept as less current as possible.

still there was 4 fry got into the hose. Returned them back.

The Turquoise tank however suffer a great mistake.

the current was max!! best say that i stir my morning coffee

with less force then what the fry might be feeling.

110120 0940 prepare a new mixture of artemia

tried giving them the egg yolk, no.. they're not buying it.

Turquoise tank ended up with less then 20 fry survived.

it was less in the beginning anyway.

Suspected due to the less time for the Turquoise Female being exposed

The Red tank however ended up with less casualties.

yes we can see 2 dead fry lying on the tank floor. But that is it.

estimated fry qty might from 100-150

all static in the same location, pedalling with their caudal fin kot.

110121 if consider that the birthday of the little fish is somewhat

between 15 or 16th of January, They today they should be 1 week

of age already. Feeding them with artemia today.

Couldnt see them munching on those little sucker though.

-they're starting to have colours... red in their belly.

i dont know whether that is their colour or not..

but that shows progress.

Their swimming improved!!

cant wait till its their second week.

cause i have to remove them into their community tank.

which will fall early February,

Wait a minute... i'm moving on early February!!

Hatched

I came back on sunday eagerly to know whether my betta 'did' it already.

Was hoping to find some eggs floating around in between of the bubble.

But i was shocked to find small small tiny ekor sticking out from the bubble.

Wah.. they dont only 'did' it, the eggs even hatched!!

so now i'm in the process of making the artemia.

dont know how but will ask around.

waahh!! and i have to fly to thailand tomorrow!!

will my baby be alive and well without me here?

i wont know.

Breeding Tank

So here it is,

my new design for breeding tank with Hang On Back fillter,

dont know how will this turn out but hoping the best on my

Betta.

Why this design?

am aiming for currentless (Or less current) due to the nature

of breeding betta is suppose to be with less current.

wish me luck.. hummmmm
i wonder how will this tank cost me.
got the whole weekend to ask around.

Fertilizer...

I am trying to fertilize my tank,
i dont know how but will try..
a lot to study,
tons to read!!

but what i know would be..
Plant need two forms of nutrient:
Macronutrient :
Nitrogen (N)
Phosphorus (P)
Kalium / Phosphate (K)

Micronutrient :
Cu .. Mg... Fe... Ca... and a lot more..
(Will put in the detail after)

Lets talk about Macro first:
this NPK can be supply with 2 chemical
available in the market.
KNO3 for the K and N
KH2PO4 for the P and K

but the problem is... those chemical is not cheap!!
so!!

Question for me to study...
will spritzer mineral water be one of the provider for K?

humm hummmm...

DiAiWaiCo2 Log 3

New Recipe:
1 tea spoon of Mauri-Pan Yeast
1/4 tea spoon of Sodium biCarbonate
200ml of sugar dilluted in...
1.5litre of water
this is the minimum ammount of Yeast i've ever
tried. The whole pack of yeast was 11gm,
i think this time is a quater of the whole pack..
or maybe even less.
Mix the yeast and sodium bicarbonate dry.
Put into the 1.5litre bottle with sugar water in it,
Shake vigorously and walla..
eh?
no foam forming.
Not even the usual brownish color foam.
the color of the solution looks like its still see through.
(Not like the usual one i use to do,
foam building up in a matter of minutes
and the solution color looks somewhat
like 'teh-tarik')

August Update

it have been awhile,
i havent been updating.
well got so busy lately even though there is a lot of action with my akvarium.

but then again, u have to understand,
akvarium is a slow action hobby,
slower than this would be 'bonsai'

so pic update with the tank and a list of what happened.1) Diatom is covering all the non moving area in the tank!!
today its showing signs of reduction.
2) added new plant here and there,
new anubias nana
new plant we malay called as Pegaga..
(Its sending new shoot after a day with CO2!! wonders ha)
3)due to the diatom, i havent been cleaning the sand area,
will do so after they are all gone!
4) the blue stone up front is a new stone. i know it'll change
its colour soon :(
5) life stock:
a) 5 black neon tetra
b) 6 neon tetra
c) 2 mollies
d) 2 EsAyEes
e) a few shrimp i dont care that much about hahah

so.. will update soon...

Fish-In

i have read somewhere,
that an inch of fish should be placed in a 4x4inches of space
for it to swim around. But a fish swims in all three axis therefore,
what about z axis? well lets just consider bout the surface and not
depth shall we?
So!! a standard 2 feet tank would have 24 x 12 inches of swimming
surface isnt it? if we consider 4 x 4 is a block of one fish,
then 24 x 12 should have 18 blocks of fish right?
meaning, if i am to keep an inch each of fish, i can have 18 of them!!
yeaaaa!!!
now i've also read somewhere that 1 gallon per 1 inch of fish,
a standard two feet tank is about 10 US gallons.. so i can either own
1) 10 pcs of one inch fish or!!
2) 1 piece of a 10 inch fish heheheh,
i'm going with the first option.
therefore, i have bought
8 pieces of Neon Tetra,
2 mollies,
to keep my EsAyEe company..
and guess what?The Neon Tetra didnt survive...
am blaming it on the water chemistry,
i think my cycle is not completed yet.

...and so i woke up at 1230 am,
had to wait till half an hour till my senses kicks in.

1am
Started to make the temporary tank for my EsAyEe,
bought a cheap filter just for them.
THe plastic jar? 1 ringgit :D

2am EsAyEe transfered, so does the shrimp,
kinda felt it'll be over stock cause of the temp tank size...
but they have to bear with me for 10 days...

230am
Siphon out all the original gravel, found out that this is
better then having to bring your fragile tank to a water
source and hose down all the gravel.
But What if the water level got too low for u to siphon it out?
Just add water laaahhh!!

3am
Tank is cleaned, back film already installed.
Found out that it is not as i imagined it to be.
The film is not as soft as how i thought it should be,
Tips 1)
Cut the whole thing first, u'll end up with
improper cutting on the edge.
Tips 2) as everybody knows it already...
soap water on glass surface, apply,
credit card to remove bubble.

330am
Partition for the type of gravel.
As i am using white sand and my old gravel,
I have to put some partition to make sure they dont mix.
Tips 1) best to use a soft carton box same material like
the tissue box. For better shape and control.
Tips 2) Good tape that dont stick its residue on the glass surface.
Tips 3) when buying stone, consider stones to guide
this partition too, u can put them to produce the contour u need.

4am,
Planting!!
every pot of the grass was devided into two,
so does HC. am planting them deep!
as i was told the tend to float a bit.

5am,
the slow part. trickling the water into the tank,
a bucket on a stool and the air line tube to flow the water in.
This was too slow!! Too slow... adehlaaa...
but the efect was nice.
Water was not cloudy,
my scape stays intact,
by the time the water level is half the tank height,
u can start to use cups to pour the water in.
With much caution though!
cause u dont want the pouring height produce
a force that will ruin your scape.
Tips 1) You'll find the surface Aquasoil amazonia II
did float by this method.
U just have to touch the floating grains and they'll sink right in.

July Rescape

Ok, i know.. its july and i am due for a rescape.
Not to say that the current one is no good or anything,
but the stand where i'm putting my 90kg tank is not
that reliable. (Am using those RM14 book shelf that u can buy from K4..)

so below is my plan..Its suppose to be a glimpse of what u can see on the river bank
where trees root going into the water.
(Yes.. the white sand is suppose to be water)
wanna keep it simple and lots of swimming area for the fauna.
-no tall plant.. Bye bye valisneria
-Hello HC and Blyxa japonica...
-Moss for the shrimp
-Blurred background.. i hope the place i'm going tomorrow have those.
-lots and lots of white sand!! heheheh

-Plant!! Blyxa japonica, HC, any kind of grass...
-Strings to tie down my DW
-main stone!! about the size of my fist, 20cm should do it.
maybe i need to make the stone a bit different colour
from the gravel just to show contrast.
-maybe some other stone to compliment the MainStone (Oyaishi?)

EsAyEe Temp Tank :
-A small water filter, Dont tell my brother but
after i'm done with this water filter, i might be
giving this to him just to 'poison' him:D

100627 Balik Kampung

Balik kampung again,
this time i've found a rock with some moss on it,
i'll update the photo after i can get a good photo
of it soon ya.

the fish were ok.. EsAyEe only there is...
since they have algae to munch on, so no worries
of them starving right.

But the shrimps killed one of them for food.
Or simply one of em got sick and died, n therefore
they're filling their bellies with their friend's flesh.
hohhoooooo...

am onto a new layout..
so its july scaping of course ..

laaaa... the MPSP fish is dead already..
she's in my tank for 3 days and dead!! i wonder why? Ammonia inside water? The shrimp are doing good.
The Siamese Algae Eater is doing fine. (Have to monitor this)
it was Saturday 19June 0000 hrs, the time my siamese algae eater
entered my tank...
lets see the progress.
its 36 hours now... hope it reaches 100 hours :D

SInce my tank is having lots and lots of algae lately,
i'm taking action!!
its the Pemakan Alga Siam...
now how do u know this is the actual thing?
look at the black stripe...
it must extend to the back of the tail...

i was told that this fish is the best in the market
for eating algae, It can grow big yes.. but not to
4 to 5 month... well just buy a new one ok...
a smaller one for your 10 gallon tank.

somehow i found that this MPSP fish doesnt do
its work as it should. just spending time more on
the wooden area...

but for this flying fox.. it was told that they even
nibble on the plant!! which is soooo 'arigatai'
havent seen them in action yet.
but will update soon ok:)

11gm of yeast.
let it sit for 4 hours.
(Accidentally slept actually hahahaha... but this is necessary,
we need to let it foam a few hours before we connect the air line.
Or else u'll be cleaning a full tank of yeast smelling water hahah)

Pipe line connected. Lots of bubble.

Foam increased to danger zone (3/4 bottle)
roll the bottle up to reduce foam to safe zone.

Came back from work to send food to wife
at hospital, Daughter is admitted for falling off the
table. No cloud!! bubble was rapid! about 8 bubble per sec.
(Considering the air stone of course)

After Hospital, bubble is slower, bout 2bps.
Its 12hrs ongoing.. lets see how far this one go.
